Sydney and Melbourne are cities well known for their shopping, but Brisbane has its own style that is beginning to be recognised by the ever growing tourist industry.

From boutique to second hand, Brisbane has many different kinds of shopping experiences, with options available for every style and budget. Fashion shopping is one of the most popular industries, particularly in the central business district but Brisbane has almost anything imaginable on offer.

Markets in Brisbane

There is a wide variety of markets all over Brisbane each weekend, each offering clothing, hand made pieces of jewellery, homewares and delicious food. Tourists and locals alike can go to several destinations throughout the city and surrounding suburbs and pick up some fabulous finds.

The South Bank markets and Fortitude Valley markets are some of the most popular, as well as the most unique. Each features stalls of hand made clothing and jewellery that can’t be found anywhere else.

The inner-city suburb West End has some fantastic farmer’s markets, and the multicultural suburb attracts a wide range of people. Almost any type of fruit or vegetable can be bought, as well as a range of delicatessen style snacks and coffees and teas.

Brisbane Outlet Shopping

Factory outlet shopping has only recently become a popular way to shop in Brisbane, thanks to the new arrival of the Direct Factory Outlet franchise. With a store at the Brisbane Airport and one in the western suburb of Jindalee, there is an outlet shopping opportunity available for almost anyone.

Further down and closer to the Gold Coast is Harbourtown, another well known centre for outlet shopping. This unique outdoor mall offers a range of stores, with stock that is constantly discounted.

Second Hand Shopping in the Brisbane Suburbs

The outer suburbs of Brisbane have a wide range of second hand stores and op shops to cater for every taste. Whether it is for a fancy dress costume or a serious bargain on an old record, there are endless opportunities.

One of the most popular destinations for second hand shopping in Brisbane is on Ipswich Road in the suburb of Annerley, approximately fifteen minutes from the city centre. There are several interesting stores along the road that will cater for every fashion taste.

The Woolloongabba antique district on the other offers a selection of antique furniture, homewares and other nick-nacks. This district is newly remodelled and specifically markets towards the younger generation interested in one of a kind antique pieces.

Brisbane CBD Boutique Shopping

Over the past couple of years, the city has gained many popular brand name stores. Queens Plaza, in the main CBD has many designer stores, including fashion labels Loius Vuitton, French Connection and Peter Alexander. The plaza also houses the famous jewellery store Tiffany & Co.

There are so many options for shopping in Brisbane to suit every lifestyle and budget. From second hand bargains right through to internationally renowned designer labels, there is everything to keep tourists and locals happy.
